There is no universal "good" number — it is set by the business model. Many distribution and retail categories sit healthily between roughly 5 and 10 turns; slow, high-value or long-lead categories run lower and can still be well managed. What matters more than the absolute figure is the trend against your own history and the spread against direct category peers. A very high ratio is not automatically good: if turns are high because inventory is thin, the business is trading service levels and lost sales for a flattering number. A very low ratio signals cash tied up in stock, rising carrying cost, and obsolescence risk. The right target is the point where stock is productive — enough to protect service levels, not so much that cash and margin leak into the warehouse.
